Transitions Reflection: Cole Snyder

Volunteering at Transitions I have gained such a great appreciation for the people that affected my life when I was younger. I get to volunteer with a number of amazing kids, but one instance has had a huge effect on my outlook. I was helping a 9-year-old boy with his schoolwork. We were chatting casually about his life and goals, when he said something to me that really got me excited about my service. He asked me “When you were my age, were you scared too?” I asked him to clarify a bit about what he was scared about. He explained about the future, his family, and his friends.

I went on to tell him that I was scared and that every person gets scared at this age. Although I came from a good life that provided me with a lot of opportunity, I am so grateful for the chances to succeed that I were given at a young age. I told Roberto that to do great in life is to face your fears and overcome them. Sadly Roberto and his family left Transitions, but I know that wherever he goes he will now face his fears.
